Industrial Noise Monitoring: Techniques For Measuring Workplace Sound Levels

Frequency Analysis, Acoustic Weighting, and Data Interpretation for Industry Noise Monitoring

Frequency analysis decomposes sound into components that can reveal tonal peaks, narrowband sources, or dominant frequency ranges associated with specific equipment. Octave-band or third-octave-band data are commonly used for engineering decisions and for designing mitigation measures such as barriers or absorbers targeted at problematic bands. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analyzers provide higher-resolution spectral views and can capture transient spectral content. Interpretation of spectral data typically considers both amplitude and bandwidth of peaks to assess whether tonal noise may be prominent enough to require targeted controls.
